When you want a fun night out in your own hometown, you know where to go to get it because you've been slowly building up a mental database of information on your city since you started living there. In fact, Dallas residents could tell you where to find the best Dallas spa package no problem. However, once they put their tourism hats on and venture out into the world, they find themselves at a loss. What is there to do in Cambridge, Massachusetts and where should you go to do it? That's the subject of our visitor's information page.

Architecture and History

If you are indeed from Dallas, you will notice, as soon as you step off the plane, that Cambridge is a much older city than you normally see in your part of the country. Sure they have the same Wal-Marts selling the same cloth diapers as you have at home, but they also have quaint cobblestone streets, monuments, and houses, some of which date back to the founding of the Massachusetts Bay colony in the mid 1600s. To get an idea of the history of this place, have a look at Harvard's Memorial Hall or visit Longfellow House, which was once the headquarters of George Washington.

Museums

The presence of Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge means that there's much more emphasis here on learning than on manufacturing custom license plate frames. You don't have to pay thousands of dollars in tuition to learn a thing or two from them. Just visit the Harvard Museum of Natural History, which has a wide range of pieces from whale bones to precious gems, or the modern MIT museum, which features brand new technology in robotics and holograms.

Art

If you want to have a gander at some famous works that you'd have to take money for jewelry to be able to afford reproductions of, or perhaps buy some books on the subject of art, visit the Harvard Art Museum. It's actually three museums which together encompass nearly the whole of human art history from around the globe. MIT also dabbles in the art world in a more modern and digital way. Check out the works in their collection at the Compton Gallery. If you're more interested in buying the works of local artists, many of them are on display in galleries in and around Harvard Square.

Entertainment

Whether your interest lies in small jazz cabarets, major rock concerts, or esoteric performance art involving aquarium gravel, Cambridge has something on its calendar for you. Some of the more popular outings include new plays at the Loeb Theater, folk music night at Club Passim, the drag burlesque Hasty Pudding show. Visit the Harvard Box Office for information and tickets.
